Luca graduated in 1988 with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bologna.
In 1989, Luca joined Ferrari to work on the design and development of the semi-automatic gearbox. In 1993, Luca progressed to become Gerhard Berger’s Data Engineer before graduating to Race Engineer in the following year. From 1996 to 1999, Luca was Eddie Irvine’s Race Engineer before working in the same role for Michael Schumacher during 2000-2002.
The following year Luca was promoted to Senior Track Engineer before moving to Operations Manager in 2006. His role changed to Team Manager in 2008 and in 2009, the move came to manage the Ferrari Driver Academy.
It was here that Luca met Lance Stroll, and in 2015, he left the Scuderia to mentor Lance and oversee his Formula 3 European Championship campaign. He continued his relationship with Lance as he moved into Formula One with Williams Martini Racing in 2017, firstly as an engineering consultant and manager, before becoming his Race Engineer for 2018.
